WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio recently shared on social media that he successfully underwent knee surgery in Bermingham. This is great news for all Mysterio fans, as he is likely to return to the ring at the Stamford-based promotion. However, there will still be a hiatus before he comes.
Given his leg injury, a few of the fans have been speculating on whether his injury was just a part of the kayfabe and if it was all framed by the promotion. But the story is something else. Is it just a kayfabe or a legitimate injury? Let’s find out.
Rey Mysterio’s injury is not a part of kayfabe
Rey Mysterio recently revealed that his knee surgery was successful, and he will soon be fit to enter the squared circle. It happened following his segment with his former teammate Santos Escobar, which took place on SmackDown last week. Well, Escobar may have been the reason behind the loss of Rey Mysterio at the hands of Logan Paul at Crown Jewel. And when Mysterio came to find that out on SmackDown, Escobar showed his real side to the wrestling veteran by attacking him brutally.
However, some believe that Rey Mysterio’s injury was planned by WWE and is not a real one. But that is not true. According to Haus of Wrestling, the veteran has been dealing with a torn meniscus that has slowly and steadily worsened over time. Now Mysterio is expected to return after six to eight weeks, and he could target Escobar after he comes back.
Even though this injury might bother the veteran, he seems to know his way around these scenarios. In particular, the knee injuries are not novel for the 48-year-old.
Mysterio and his past relations with knee injuries
Rey Mysterio has quite an old relationship with knee injuries. His first brush with the injury list came when he used to perform at WCW. In 1997, Mysterio defeated Juventud Guerrera to win the WCW Cruiserweight Champion title. But sadly, he had to vacate it due to a gruesome knee injury.
His second knee injury came in 2006 when he had established himself as a top guy for the company. He returned after nine months for a feud against Chavo Guerrero but sadly was unable to retain the top spot for long.
Another injury witnessed by the veteran was in 2013. Sadly, Mysterio’s faith in the WWE diminished by that time. He suffered the injury just as he had plans to take time off from wrestling.
Considering his past relationship with the knee injuries, Mysterio must be aware of how to deal with the current situation.
