Reviewing the Kylash Mascara by Kylie Cosmetics

Posted by Jenniffer Sheldon on Friday, August 9, 2024

Kylie Jenner may be the mother of lip kits but she’s just to tapped into unknown when she decided to launch the Kylash Volume Mascara. Like any good mascara launch, this one came out with its fair share of controversy.

If you're not in living in celebrity gossip corner of TikTok you might not be familiar with Hailey-Selena Gate, and somewhere along the lines there is a deep-dive into how Kylie Jenner was mocking Selena Gomez's brows, when all along it might have just have been promo for this very mascara. This is all fan theories of course.

Either way we're here for the beauty goods, and this one promises an instant eye-opening effect that adds volume and lift to your lashes. This vegan and clean formula is supposed to offer exceptional performance without compromising on ingredients, with weightless fibres which are expertly designed to coat each lash without feeling heavy, flaking, or smudging. The result? Instant multidimensional definition that gives the appearance of having more lashes. Plus, that super-black colour adds depth, intensity and its weightless brush fibres give ultra-separation to your lashes throughout.

But it's not just about the instant results. The Kylash Volume Mascara also adds length and holds curl, making sure your look lasts all day. The mascara features lash-loving actives like grapeseed oil and pro-vitamin B5 that work together to strengthen and protect your lashes with each wear. It's packaged in a matte, velvety and luxurious feeling tube that looks as rich and expensive as Kylie Jenner herself.

Now controversy aside, this mascara really does sounds TF good, but how does it fair in real life. Here are five GLAMOUR staffer's brutally honest thoughts.

The Verdict:

I came into this with no expectations. I know that Kylie Cosmetics have produced some great products in the past but I'm too much of a self-proclaimed mascara connoisseur to be easily impressed. On first impressions the packaging is beautiful. Slick, matte, with a bit of weight to make it feel expensive. The wand was pretty standard but I was keen to start layering the coats in.

The formula really is super lightweight. It doesn't clump either even when you're layering in coat after coat (which can be a good or bad thing). It gave me lots of length, and that's major kudos as we all want a bit of length. I will say that I didn't get the oomph on my lashes that I expected from the size of the wand. I could do with a bit more volume, so it didn't quite live up to it's name. However, this might be the perfect mascara for that no makeup-makeup look. So I'm undecided on which tribe I sit. I think the formula is nice enough, doesn't crumble and its easy to remove so, for those reasons alone, I think this Kylash mascara could just about win my love overtime…

I remember seeing Kylie's announcement post for the Kylash mascara and being relatively intrigued as it's her first foray into mascaras, and her lashes looked great in the photos. When I tried it myself, it was a different story. I found the wand quite unimpressive, it looked like a run-of-the-mill mascara wand and it didn't grip to my lashes well to distribute the product.

It took quite a few coats to get it to a level I would usually wear day-to-day and even then, it wasn't anywhere near enough volume or length as I'd want. As the wand is quite big, I found it hard to get down to the root of my lashes (especially my lower ones) and ended up getting mascara on my skin as a result.

On first impressions, aside from the obvious notes on packaging comparisons, this mascara surprised me. I expected a formula that'd give me strip lash-looking eyelashes, but I instead experienced one which enhanced my everyday look. Thinking about it, though, outside of her red carpet looks, Kylie is known for her au natural makeup – often showcasing those gorgeous freckles – and this truly reflects that.

It's very thin, so if you like a fuller coating you may have to go in more than a few times to achieve it, and it didn't curl my lashes at all. It did darken and lengthen them slightly, though, so credit where its due. I think I'll 100% reach for this on no makeup makeup days when the rest of my beauty routine will compliment it more.

I'm a floozy when it comes to mascaras so I was interested to see how this one holds up. I love the the bristly, chunky wand for swiping straight through lashes. As for the formula it delivered on curling and volume, but I could have done with a bit more length. Overall, it's a good mascara, but it fell short of being a triple threat for me.

I was so excited to get my hands on the new Kylie Cosmetics Kylash Volume Mascara so I could see for myself why the TikTok girlies are losing it over this new launch. At first glance, she's a beauty. The packaging is matt, in an elegant eggshell shade of pale pink and gives all the simplistic-luxe vibes you could want from a product. Tick on the aesthetic. The wand itself is neither too thick nor too thin. However, personal preference, I opt for an ultra thin wand so I can target the route of my lashes to achieve maximum length.

Comme ci comme ça on on the applicator. The formula itself is quite thick, and for me, it felt like it was verging a little on the ‘clumpy’ side. Don't get me wrong, if I was wanting to achieve the ultra full look for a more extravagant occasion, I would perhaps be reaching for this product again, but unfortunately I don't think it would make it into the everyday bag. What I do love about this product is its vegan formula and that it is cruelty free. So as far as ethos goes it's a 10/10 from me. Overall, the look, brand and feel of the product is great, perhaps a thinner wand and formula may have won me over.
