Hilary Duff's Pal Predicted Hawaiian Proposal

When hockey player Mike Comrie proposed to Hilary Duff in February, he didn’t miss a single detail: a Hawaiian sunset, wine, getting down on one knee – and making sure to call Duff’s mother half an hour beforehand so she wouldn’t ruin the surprise.

“He knew better than to [tell my family],” Duff, 22, tells Ellen DeGeneres on Friday’s The Ellen DeGeneres Show, noting that she and her mom are “are really close, so I’m sure it would have been hard to keep that secret.”

Comrie, 29, who plays for the Edmonton Oilers, also managed to surprise Duff (his girlfriend of three years) when he popped the question. “I thought maybe it would happen this summer, so I was pretty taken off-guard,” she says. “My girlfriend was like, ‘You guys are going to Maui, he’s going to propose for sure,’ and, I’m like ‘No way.’ ”

DeGeneres, currently Cowell’s fellow judge on American Idol, says she thinks Duff would be “great” – and promises to put in a good word: “I’ll talk to Simon. I think he should consider you.”
