Halle Bailey's Met Gala Hair Is Straight, But It's Locs... But It's Straight? See Photos

Halle Bailey and her sister Chloe have shown throughout their careers the versatility of locs. Theirs have been weaved into intricate sculptures, braided into box braids down to their knees, and transformed into voluminous curls. But Halle took it to another level when she showed up at the 2023 Met Gala without her locs — her hair was straightened and styled into a curled bob instead.

Halle looked like an ethereal beauty the moment she stepped on the Met Gala red carpet in a lacy, floor-length dress with an extravagant cape. Her curled bob added to the Old Hollywood glamour vibe of her outfit. I expected to see her signature locs fashioned into some unique style, but never would I ever have guessed that she would show up with straightened and short hair.

Upon closer inspection, you can see her locs start at the roots, but are somehow transformed into a straightened style from the shaft to the tips. The look was completely different and new for the star, who typically has medium-length to long hair, regardless of the style, and has never been spotted with straightened hair. But the question is how did her hairstylist do it?

My first guess was that her hairstylist tied down her locs and then crocheted in straight extensions. Or Halle's locs were partially combed out and then her own hair was curled into a voluminous bob. But, truthfully, I have no clue.

The hairstylist, Tinisha Meeks, who is also the head hairstylist for Grown-ish, was the mastermind behind the look, and I have nothing but praise and awe for her. Her hands are truly blessed. Trust and believe that I zoomed in several times to examine Halle's hair closely. At one point, I even brought my laptop right up to my eyeballs, trying my hardest to see where her locs ended and her straight hair began.

I am still truly at a loss for words about this hair and very excited to see what she and her sister have in store for us going forward. However, my edges are not prepared to be snatched!
