Backed by a trio featuring her brother Jeff on bass, D’Angelo mostly sings material she has had at least a hand in writing. She did, however, include Cole Porter’s “Get Out of Town” and two songs introduced by Patsy Cline, whom she played in the 1980 Loretta Lynn biopic “Coal Miner’s Daughter”: an uptempo “Walkin’ After Midnight” and “Too Many Secrets.”

On the cusp between borrowed and original material was D’Angelo’s terrific version of the old Hank Snow hit “I’ve Been Everywhere,” sung at a blistering tempo and with clothing styles and materials substituted for place names and renamed “I’ve Worn Everything.”

But it’s the original material that best defines D’Angelo, most of it falling into the category of skewed love songs and most of the best stuff unprintable here. There’s a funny spoken piece called, evidently, “Las Vegas Is Sad,” and a tribute to Hollywood suicide called “100 Darvon and a Little Jack Daniel’s.”
